Since the Telecom Act of 1996 mandated Local Number Portability (LNP) in the U.S., there's been marginal churn increase attributed to it. In Canada, where LNP isn't required by law, customer defection rates are almost as high. There are no publicly available stats on other major occurrances, such as divestiture; however, it's reasonable that a dramatic loss of perceived equity due to change in ownership status would be sufficient to motivate a lot of churn.
