You should have a very clear idea of exactly what your key goals are for a CRM system. For some, this may be as simple as having a central contact database that is accessible to all employees. For others, core sales force automation (SFA) functionality with reminders, to-do's, sales funnel, and disconnected access is important. Then again, other firms may be looking to automate order entry via direct web access by their clients and prospects. Finally, other firms may require sophisticated marketing analytics and campaign management. Although all of these functions might be available in a complete package, knowing your "must have" requirements will help focus your search to the product that best meets your needs. Finally, you need to consider long-term growth assumptions and determine if the CRM packages under review can grow with your business. This includes adding more users, integrating the CRM system across departments, customizing the application as business needs change, and integration with future systems.
