Why hire a consultant for a CRM upgrade?

When should CRM software consultants be used? As we prepare for a CRM software upgrade, I'm wondering if it's appropriate to hire a consultant to help us through the upgrade process.

It's appropriate to hire a CRM consultant if you're unclear technically or strategically on how to pursue the CRM software upgrade. Or, hire a consultant if you simply don't have the bandwidth to define the upgrade path.

My thinking has always been, if you don't do it for a living and someone else does, then let the ones doing it for a living -- the CRM consultants -- do it for you.
