Brief: IBM, Informatica team up

IBM is at it again -- partnering up with yet another IT vendor to integrate and market its solutions.

The latest IBM partner is Informatica Corp., Redwood City, Calif., a data integration and business intelligence provider.

Under the agreement announced Wednesday, Informatica's product line will be more tightly integrated with IBM to speed customer deployment, increase effectiveness and reduce costs, company officials said.

IBM Websphere 5.0 is already embedded in Informatica PowerAnalyzer as an application server option. Informatica's PowerCenter data integration platform has also been optimized to deliver load performance for IBM DB2 Universal Database Enterprise Server Edition software. With Informatica's recent acquisition of Striva Corp., customers have access to all IBM mainframe and AS/400 databases, officials said.

The agreement includes marketing and sales activities.

Informatica recently decided to position itself more as a data integration provider and less as an analytics firm.
