Kana Software Inc., the Menlo Park, Calif, announced today a definitive agreement to purchase Hipbone Inc., an online customer interaction software maker.
The agreement is expected to close in the first quarter of this year. Terms of the deal were not released.
Hipbone, San Carlos, Calif., provides customer support staff and sales executives with live chat, browsing and file sharing technologies. Its customers include financial service companies such as Wells Fargo & Co. and high-tech manufacturers including Veritas Software Corp. and NCR Corp.
Hipbone's online assisted service channel will be added to Kana's iCare suite and provide customers with Web collaboration capabilities to assist customers in online transactions as well as agent-to-agent collaboration in the contact center, Kana said. Kana will continue to offer Hipbone as a stand-alone product and will also integrate it into Kana Response, Contact Center and IQ. Additionally, Hipbone's focus on financial services, insurance, high-tech and travel will extend Kana's vertical offerings, officials said.
