It's already been a busy week on the Web analytics front.

Omniture Inc., an Orem, Utah, Web analytics vendor, released version 10 of its SiteCatalyst application on Tuesday. The new version features Advanced Segmentation Insight, which provides simpler, real-time analysis. Users can segment down to individual customers. SiteCatalyst also offers the ability to review historical data on newly defined segments.

Another new tool in SiteCatalyst allows users to allocate values to Web pages in page views, sales or page flow. For example, users can identify the page that was seen by everyone who came to their Web site and made a purchase.

Finally, the Open Data Platform tool has expanded integration with non-SiteCatalyst data. Version 10 also places a big emphasis on user adoption.

"Our job is to make the data presentable but at the same time put the emphasis on training," said John Mellor, Omniture's vice president of marketing. "We're moving deeper into the organization."

NetIQ announces acquisition, new version

In other Web analytics news, NetIQ Corp., San Jose, Calif., announced Monday it was acquiring the WebPosition product line and business of FirstPlace Software Inc. WebPosition Gold, search engine optimization software, will be added to NetIQ's search engine marketing and optimization applications. The combination of the products will ensure organizations they are publishing Web site content that is relevant to searches being conducted by Internet users, according to NetIQ.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

NetIQ also announced it was introducing WebTrends 7, creating easier to interpret results, generating answers to complex business questions and tightening integration with daily business processes.

Cognos and Onyx team up

CRM vendor Onyx Software Corp., of Bellevue, Wash., and BI vendor Cognos Inc., Ottawa, announced Monday they are strengthening their OEM agreement.

Under the agreement, Cognos' ReportNet application will power reporting capabilities within Onyx's Employee Portal. The integration of ReportNet gives Onyx users a reporting tool that delivers customer metrics to all levels of the organization, Cognos said.
